Well I’m currently making long (5 to 6 feet) tube scarves on my round knitting looms to donate to homeless shelters, for people in need. I already made hats to donate, too. I find I can also use left-over balls of yarn from my hat looming projects to make the scarves. I just tie and join the different colors of yarn to each other as I knit.
To make a tube scarf on a round knitting loom: begin as for a hat and then keep knitting around the entire circle of the loom for a knitted tube. This is NOT for a flat piece. Add new yarn as you go. I suggest using at least two strands of yarn held together for a warm, thick knit fabric. Measure the length you want (like I said, I prefer from 5 to 6 feet, but you can make shorter or longer scarves if you want to). I prefer to use the small “baby-size” round knitting looms to make my tube scarves, due to it being faster for me to complete the scarves, and the scarves will still fit okay. But you can use any size/width of round knitting loom you want to. No need to buy another knitting loom for this if you have one already. Then finish off as for a hat when you are finished. (more…)
I made my magic scarf on the yellow knifty knitter using all pegs,and holding 2 strands of fun fur together. Just using the e stitch and knitting off one over one. It is so gorgeous and full, it weighs a full pound alone! I used champagne and chocolate, and it took 4 of each color. However, maybe it’s because I used 2 strands, but it
will only fit petite to average size. Do you think I could use my knitting board to make a bigger one? I don’t have the one like the dream boards that have pegs at the end. Just the adjustable one with pegs or nails on the sides.
The Magic Scarf is only truly magic with one strand of a fairly stretchy yarn knitted in large gauge.
A magic scarf is a tube scarf made large enough to slip one end over the head, then wrap the rest around you like a normal scarf.
A moebius (sp) scarf is made like any scarf, but it’s twisted, then the short ends are sewn together, so it always has the twist. It’s lovely … and
you try very hard not to let the twist show, so it looks like a continuous circle. The word itself comes from a specific geometric figure … where
there is no “right” or “wrong” side.
Purling is really easy once you understand it correctly. First tip on doing the purl stitch. You only do it on one peg at a time. Sort of like when you do the flat stitch, you don’t have to wrap your pegs, and you do it on one peg at a time.

When you e-wrap your pegs with yarn, don’t wrap too tightly or you won’t be able to make any stitches. For lighter to medium weight yarns (like sport and
worsted weights) use two (2) or more strands of yarn held together for a nice, thick knit. For chunky and bulky yarns, you can use only one (1) strand alone. (more…)
